Study-visa application deadlines

Last day to submit a study-visa application at the Italian embassy for Bachelor's (Laurea), Master's degree (Laurea Magistrale), single-cycle degrees and AFAM diplomas. Pre-enrolment on Universitaly and validation by your university must be completed before this.

  • Academic year 2026/2730 Nov 2026
  • Academic year 2027/2831 Oct 2027

University masters (Master universitario), PhDs, Erasmus, single courses and foundation courses have no fixed cut-off, but the visa must be requested before classes start. Universities and embassies may set earlier dates. Confirm on Universitaly and with your university.

Why Study in Italy?

Italy offers a large network of public universities, many English-taught degrees, comparatively accessible tuition for public institutions (often income-linked), and strong regional right-to-study (DSU) systems. Quality and costs still vary by city and university — always check the official call.

How to Find Universities

Start with degree level and subject, then filter by city or region. Prefer programmes with a clear official admissions link. Use our finder for English-taught options, then confirm requirements on the university website.

Bachelor Admission Guide

English bachelor's (Laurea Triennale) often ask for secondary-school credentials, language proof, and sometimes an entrance test such as CEnT-S. Deadlines and tests differ by university — never assume one university’s rules apply to another.

Master Admission Guide

English master's (Laurea Magistrale) usually need a relevant bachelor's degree, transcripts, CV, and language proof. Some require GRE/GMAT or interviews; many do not. Evaluation is programme-specific.

Documents Checklist

Typical files include academic certificates, transcripts, translations, and recognition steps (for example DOV or CIMEA when required). Procedures for Pakistani board/HEC/MOFA chains are documented separately — students from other countries should follow their own embassy and attestation path.

Scholarships in Italy

Regional DSU scholarships can include fee reductions and/or a grant, but awards are conditional on income, merit, enrolment, and agency rules. Applying or meeting basic filters is not an award. Erasmus Mundus is a separate competitive track.

Student Visa Guide

Most non-EU students need a Type-D study visa after admission and (when required) Universitaly pre-enrolment. General Italian requirements — admission, financial means, insurance, accommodation — are national. Embassy or BLS checklists, appointment systems, and document formats are country-specific. Pakistani applicants can use our Islamabad / Karachi guides; others must follow their local Italian mission.

Costs of Studying in Italy

Budget for one-time preparation (applications, documents, visa, travel) plus tuition and monthly living costs. City and housing type change the picture. Visa financial-proof amounts are official minimums for means of subsistence — they are not the same as your personal spending plan.

Application Process

A practical order: explore programmes → check eligibility → prepare documents → apply on official portals → complete Universitaly when required → apply for scholarships separately → prepare the visa file after admission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Deadlines can change. Scholarships are never guaranteed. English requirements vary. MOI letters help only when the official call allows them. Start with Find Your Programme, Eligibility, and the Cost Calculator before paying application fees.

Country-specific note

Italy rules vs embassy procedures

University admission rules and national visa categories are Italian. How you book appointments, which forms you print, and which local attestations you need depend on the Italian embassy or consulate that serves your place of residence. Our Pakistan desk guides cover Islamabad and Karachi tracks; if you live elsewhere, follow your local mission's checklist even when the degree is the same.
